I’ve been playing the guitar for 2 years now and love it all the way been playing fingerstyle and classical pieces. But most of the songs i learnt are by tabs =.= although I know how to read notations (not fluently) but when theres a tab i’ll be playing the tabs instead the notes.

So a suggestion was given to me, pick up another instrument. So I think I have to choose either the violin(string family) or the piano. So mind giving me ur opinions should i go for the strings or the piano?

I also have love for the string instrument as it can make a sweet and melodic tunes for pop musics.

p.s. I have a piano in my house but no one plays it, sometimes i do.

    Hey =)

    I’d go for piano, because…

    1. It really helps with theory and you’ll be surprised how much better it will help your fluency and understanding of chords =) It has certainly helped me with violin.

    2. Its sort of like a foundation instrument; if you learn piano, then any other instrument wil be way easier to learn =)

    3. You don’t need accompaniment. Most violin pieces need a piano backing.

    4. Although Violin is a great instrument to learn, I’d do piano first before you try learning it, especially as your note reading isn’t that awesome.

    Hope I answered your question =)

    Easy. If you are a multi-tasker, you defenatly want to do piano but if you are a single-tasker you more than likely should do violin.

    I went from guitar to violin last year (I was playing guitar a year before that) and it is challenging, but it is still a good choice. The guitar’s first four strings (EADG) are the violins stings backwards (GDAE). The thing that I find most challenging about violin was slurring with the bow. As for piano, I can’t tell you much, because I’ve been playing piano for almost 10 years, so I don’t know what it would be like to start it after playing something else, since it was my 1st instrument.

    Also, you mentioned that you cannot read music. I would recommend the violin for that case since you only need to learn the treble cleff, and for piano you need to learn the bass cleff as well.

    for the record : the piano is also string family, it’s a string instrument (just open the cap to see that),
    I play piano and it’s really useful, especially since you also play guitar, it’s a better training for your fingers, and it’s a greater variety,
    violin is about the same, I’d say!

    I would recommend trying the violin/viola , i played the viola for 4 years and then changed to guitar , with strings I find that once you learn how to play 1 instrument , it’s quite easy to change .
